Owner and head instructor Mark Deans is another product of the ever expanding TRYkitesurfing community and learnt to kitesurf with the team in 2012.
Glasgow born and bred, the 23 year old is an international Open Water swimmer. He’s swam for Great Britain at the European Championships and as of 2017 he holds the World Record for the Manhattan ‘20 Bridges Swim’, a gruelling 48km (29.8miles) swim around the island of Manhattan which he did in 6hrs 34mins, raising money for the Beatson Cancer Charity based in Glasgow in the process. He’s also a Red Bull athlete and has won the Glasgow Red Bull Neptune Steps three consecutive years in a row and the Swedish Neptune Steps twice.
Aside from his competitive swimming Mark’s passion lies in teaching on the water. He’s a qualified swim instructor (and beach lifeguard) of many years and a wakeboarding instructor too. His confidence and ability in the water translates in him being a teacher who can safely take students of varying levels out and offer coaching specific to their needs.
Mark forms the perfect bridge between instructor and student, using his own learning experience to teach in a steady and empathic way, creating the ideal learning environment for any aspiring kitesurfers.
