Following the success of our school’s trip to the island of Tiree last year, students of TRYkitesurfing are all invited to book onto our trip to Tiree 2018 – watch this space for details!
In October of 2017 TRYkitesurfing headed out to Tiree for 6 days. This remote island off the far West coast of Scotland offers a number of white sand beaches and is ideal for kitesurfers whether novice or rising pro. Students on this trip benefited from daily group and individual lessons from our instructors to help them improve and practise further. Having instructors on-hand meant students could head out onto the water to practise whilst feeling confident there was an expert on hand to give any advice or help as needed as well as encouragement.
Being there for 6 days meant that every student progressed hugely. Whether it was landing their first jump or getting up and riding confidently on their own our students all reached new levels in the sport. Having done a weekend course with us there’s no greater way to progress quickly than to get out every day on the water and practise everything you have learnt. It’s also a great opportunity to meet fellow kitesurfers as the school’s accommodation is all shared and evening meals provided as part of the trip.
The island has kitesurfing friendly beaches on all sides making it ideal as any given wind direction we can find a beach to use for the day – a valuable training exercise for all our students in understanding for themselves the choosing of a safe location based on the wind direction, speed and gusts. On our last trip we managed to get out riding every day and when the wind was too low for the kites one morning we took the school out surfing and standup paddle boarding instead. Other highlights included swimming in the sea at the end of each day with seals popping up to say hello, beach BBQ’s and games as well as checking out the local pub on the island.
Tiree is beautiful, perfect for kitesurfing and probably like nowhere else you’ve been before in Scotland – we’ll let the photos below speak for themselves!
